Agree that public sector at least as important, if not more so than private; depends where you are coming from I guess. I know of several PSUs in India which hired seasoned veterans from the private sector for CXO roles and the organizations saw a turnaround within a year. And yes, more focus on leadership development, fewer meetings that really could have been done via email. I did...Well stated... umm, rant with many truths.

I did a double take on the statement that that in the PS, they "don't have to produce annual reports that detail their successes and failures." I strongly disagree - these are very common in the PS organizations I've been exposed to. Whether they are well written or result in anything is another question.

I also question the statement that the PS is less transparent. There are some very opaque organizations in the private sector. I've seen PS organizations take great measures to be open with the public. It seems there are more levers for PS openness than exist in private sector.

Third issue - "Eliminate "information sharing" meetings and replace them with discussions on how to be better leaders." So PS "leaders" should just discuss leadership and never get to the business issues at hand? Information sharing is sort of a necessary component of continuous improvement, organizational communications, strategizing, planning, etc. If you meant having well-managed meetings that include leadership building activities rather than time wasting, pointless meetings, I'd agree w/ you.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
